Unidentified Releases from Guantánamo
CSHRA was originally unable to identify the following releases from Guantánamo:
- The release to Hungary on December 1, 2009. The New York Times eventually identified this release as Mahrar Rafat al Quwari (ISN 519) (but dated the release November 30, 2009).
- The release of an Uzbek to Switzerland on January 26, 2010 (but right before this release there were two Uzbek nationals at Guantánamo: Ali Sher Hamidullah (ISN 455) and Kamalludin Kasimbekov (ISN 675)). The New York Times eventually identified this release as Ali Sher Hamidullah (ISN 455).
- Two of the three releases to the Republic of Georgia on March 23, 2010 (the third was Abdel Hamid al Ghizzawi (ISN 654). The New York Times eventually identified these releases as Abdul Haddi bin Hadiddi (ISN 717) and Ashraf Salim Abd al Salam Sultan (ISN 263).
- The release of an Afghan to Spain and of an Uzbek to Latvia on July 22, 2010 (at the time of these releases, there was only one of two Uzbeks in Guantánamo: either Ali Sher Hamidullah (ISN 455) or Kamalludin Kasimbekov (ISN 675); twenty Afghans were imprisoned at Guantanamo at the time of this release (see the NYTimes Guantanamo Docket). The Guantanamo Docket of the New York Times eventually identified these releases as Mohammed Mustafa Sohail (ISN 1008) to Spain and Kamalludin Kasimbekov (ISN 675) to Latvia.
