Sgt. Maj. John Van Natta was Camp Delta warden from October 2002 to September 2003 (see FRONTLINE, The Torture Question). Sgt. Maj. Van Natta was interviewed for an article that appeared in the Washington Post on May 2, 2004. In this article we read the following.
"If you have no idea what's going to happen to you, that's extremely
stressful," he said. "But if the mission is to collect intelligence and
get information that is beneficial to our side, then despair and
depression may be a good thing."
VanNatta said he was concerned by the growing number of suicide attempts.
