In the summer of 2004, after the Supreme Court ruled that Guantánamo detainees could challenge their confinement in U.S. courts, a loose confederation of lawyers was formed to represent them pro bono (see Stacy Sullivan, "The Minutes of the Guantánamo Bay Bar Association," New York Magazine, June 26, 2006). Led by the New York Center for Constitutional Rights, they called themselves The Guantánamo Bay Bar Association. The members of this association (as of 10/06/06) can be found in the website of the October 6, 2006 National Guantanamo Teach-In organized by the Seton Hall University School of Law. Some of these lawyers have given testimony about prisoner abuse in Guantánamo. And so have other legal teams representing the prisoners.
