Pakistani detainees stress on soiling the Holy Quran in Guantanamo

Seventeen detainees who have been released from the famous American prison, Guantanamo, have confirmed that they witnessed dirtying the holy Quran when they were arrested. Among 35 Pakistani released from Guantanamo last September, those who spoke were arrested again in Pakistan for further investigations.

“I eye-witnessed the US soldiers in Guantanamo throwing the holy Quran in a bucket full of feces”, ex-prisoner Hafiz Ehsan Said (27 years old) said to Agence France Press upon being released from his prison in Lahore, Pakistan.

Muhammad Haneef (25), another released detainee, mentioned he was exposed to severe torture and the US soldiers forced him to shave his beard in Guantanamo.

The US Government recently released around 60 Pakistani detainees from Guantanamo. Those prisoners were arrested right after Taliban’s regime was taken down late 2001.

Humiliation not investigation

In the same context, a Russian detainee who was released from Guantanamo last year confirmed the story. “US soldiers used to take copies of the Quran regularly to the restrooms to dirt and soil them”, he said.

Erat Fakheetoof, who was released last year after being arrested for 18 months in Guantanamo, said the US soldiers intentionally humiliated the holy Quran in front of the detainees, which caused a lot of objections within the prison.

Newsweek, the American magazine, stated in its May issue that investigators threw copies of the Quran in the restrooms on purpose to force the detainees to speak. This action has caused wide waves of objections and protests in the Muslim world.

It is worth mentioning that the US maintains around 520 detainees from 40 different countries in Guantanamo. Most of them spent already more than three years, while only 4 were brought to trial in a court.

معتقلون باكستانيون يؤكدون تدنيس المصحف بغوانتانامو

أكد حوالي 17 معتقلا باكستانيا سابقا في سجن غوانتانامو الأميركي أنهم شهدوا تدنيس المصحف الشريف خلال فترة اعتقالهم في أفغانستان.
وكان المعتقلون المحررون من بين 35 باكستانيا أطلق سراحهم من غوانتانامو في سبتمبر/أيلول الماضي، لكنهم احتجزوا فور عودتهم إلى الوطن للتحقيق معهم وأفرج عنهم اليوم بعد تسعة أشهر من الاعتقال.
وقال المعتقل السابق حافظ إحسان سعيد (27 عاما) لوكالة فرانس برس أثناء خروجه من السجن في مدينة لاهور إنه شاهد "جنودا أميركيين يدنسون المصحف في غوانتانامو بإلقائه في دلو مليء بالبول والغائط".
وذكر معتقل محرر آخر هو محمد حنيف (25 عاما) أنه تعرض للتعذيب وأجبره الجنود الأميركيون على حلق لحيته في غوانتانامو.
وقد أطلقت الحكومة الأميركية سراح حوالي ستين باكستانيا من سجن غوانتانامو اعتقلوا عقب الإطاحة بنظام طالبان أواخر عام 2001.
تدنيس لاستجواب:
وبالتزامن مع ذلك أكد معتقل روسي أفرج عنه السنة الماضية من معتقل غوانتانامو واقعة تدنيس المصحف الشريف بقوله إن الجنود الأميركيين كانوا يأخذون بانتظام نسخا من المصحف إلى دورات المياه لتدنيسها.
وقال إيرات فاخيتوف الذي أفرج عنه قبل سنة بعد اعتقاله حوالي 18 شهرا في غوانتانامو إن الجنود الأميركيين كانوا يعمدون إلى تدنيس القرآن على مرأى من المعتقلين مما يثير احتجاجات واسعة داخل المعتقل.
وأوردت مجلة نيوزويك الأميركية في مايو/ أيار الماضي أن المحققين يعمدون إلى إلقاء نسخ من المصحف في دورات المياه والمغاسل لإجبار المعتقلين على الكلام خلال استجوابهم مما أثار موجة احتجاجات واسعة واستياء شديد في العالم الإسلامي.
وتحتجز الولايات المتحدة في غوانتانامو حوالي 520 معتقلا من 40 دولة قضى معظمهم حوالي ثلاث سنوات ولم يحاكم منهم سوى أربعة أشخاص.
